Child Abuse Hurts

Child Abuse Hurts

Little Jimmy McHoward
Wasn't an ordinary kid.
The bushes in the park,
Was where he normally hid.

Why did he do that?
Why didn't he play?
Why would he go there,
And sit there all day?

Nobody knew why.
Nobody cared.
But then came Sarah,
Who was immediatly scared.

She first saw him in hiding,
And went right to the spot.
She saw him asleep,
In a messy old cot.

"What are you doing?"
She asked him right there.
Why was she talking to him,
Did she even dare?

He woke up right away,
And looked at her with fright.
He wondered why she was here,
In the middle of the night.

"I'm running away,
I'm hiding from my dad.
It's better to be here,
Than when he's real mad."

Sarah began to wonder,
Why anyone would do that.
Sarah sat next to him,
And layed down on the old mat.

"What's wrong with your dad?"
Asked Sarah right then.
"You can't run away from home,
You look about ten."

"He gets really mad,
And then he hurts me.
Look at my bruised up
All bandaged knee."

"Your daddy did that?"
Sarah asked the boy.
"He shouldn't do that!
It's as if your his toy!"

"I have no where to go,
I have to stay here.
If he finds me he'll hurt me,"
Said Jimmy with a tear.

"You're coming to my house,
My mother will surely like you.
I'll tell her what you said,
And you tell her too."

Sarah took Jimmy with her,
And they told her about his dad.
They told her what happens,
Everytime he gets mad.

Her mother was shocked.
She started to cry.
She looked straight at young Jimmy,
And gave a long sigh.

She told him she would help him,
And he was alowd to stay.
This way he would be fed,
And alowd to play.

During that long night,
Sarah's mother picked up the phone.
She called the police,
And spoke in a straight tone.

The next morning the police came,
And questioned everyone.
They asked all sorts of things,
And they still weren't done.

At the end of the day,
The police went to Jimmy's house.
They took his dad away,
And locked him up like a mouse.

Jimmy didn't have to hide,
He could go out and play.
He started to cry,
And asked how long he could stay.

Sarah's mother said forever.
He didn't need to be upset.
She said it was a good thing,
That Sarah and Jimmy met.

Jimmy was never hurt again.
He wasn't ever sad.
He would always remember,
His abusive dad.

Child abuse hurts,
End it here.
Children are hurt,
Oh dear, Oh dear.

Children are harmed,
End it here.
Children are killed,
Oh dear, Oh dear.
